The Church's Walk
- In 1950, Pastor Kenichi Tsuchiya (then 67 years old) began pioneering evangelism
in Tokyo's Setagaya-Ku, Akazutsumi, where the present Tokyo Covenant church
building stands. Services started with the two "six-tatami-mat size"
rooms of the pastor couple's own house. However, in 1957, construction
of the "first single-storied chapel" was completed.
- In 1960, Junichi Tsuchiya (son of Kenichi Tsuchiya) was installed as assistant
pastor. In 1964, he was married to Ayako Igarashi. In 1969, he was installed
as head pastor.
- In 1971, the "second chapel" was completed. In 1977, the heavy
request of the mothers of the neighborhood and God's mission were accepted,
and Kohitsuji En (transl. Lamb Garden), a kindergarten, was opened. Graduated
students and students' family members have come to the faith through this
work.
- In 1997, the present "third chapel" was completed. At the same
time, Nozomien, a social service workshop, was born. In 2006, the group
home, "Hope, Sangenjaya" was established.
- In March 2014, due to the retirement of Pastor Junichi Tsuchiya and his
wife, Ayako Tsuchiya, Kohitsuji En closed its doors after a 36 year history.
In the days of its opening, Kohitsuji En was a rare place. At this christian
nursery, under the leadership of Ayako Tsuchiya, children with handicaps
and children without were nurtured together and taught in the word of God.
- In April of 2014, Pastor Junichi Tsuchiya and his wife, Ayako Tsuchiya,
retired.
- In May 2014, Pastor Oyamada Tadashi was installed as pastor.
- In November 2017, Pastor Randall Min was installed as pastor.
